Tura, Mar 16: The Public Health Engineering Department, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya organized a 10km Marathon Run with the theme “Water For Peace”, at the Matchakolgre LP School Playground, New Tura to spread awareness on water conservation. The run was a part of the World Water Day celebration 2024.
The run commenced early on Saturday at 6 am, with on spot registrations from 5 am. The Marathon started from the Matchakolgre LP School playground, New Tura eroute Bokmagre and ended at the Ballongre playground.
The run was flagged off by Aditya Verma, IAS, Asst. Commissioner, West Garo Hills. While addressing the participants, he motivated them to give their best and keep theirs and the fellow runner’s safety in mind.
The Marathon saw participation of around 700 participants from all age groups in both male and female categories.
Cash prizes for the top there spots in both the categories were set at Rs.7000, Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 respectively. In men’s category first spot was taken by Nirest R Marak, followed by Bethnar A Sangma and the third spot went to Kanen M Sangma. In female category Dimchi Ch Marak won the first spot followed by Ringse Chimik Sangma and Lailisphina M Sangma.
Special category award for senior citizen was won by Topan M Sangma and the young category award was won by Steverayal R Marak followed byJunesbirth Ch Marak and Derrick Ch Marak.
There were consolation prize of Rs.1000 for finishers in senior category of 50 years and above and in young runners category of 12 years and below.
May such events are on the cards by the PHE department as part of the World Water Day Celebration 2024.
