Pradyot sounds battle cry ahead of TTAADC polls, vows to ‘humiliate BJP at the ballot box’

Agartala, Dec 11: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Thursday unleashed one of his strongest attacks yet on the BJP, declaring that the ruling party would face a “humiliating defeat” in the upcoming TTAADC elections, expected early next year.

Addressing a massive public meeting at Manaipathar in Sepahijala district—where 1,975 supporters from various parties joined the Motha—Pradyot predicted a landslide victory, asserting that his party would bag 25 out of 28 seats in the tribal council polls.

“BJP betrayed the Tiprasa people”

Pradyot accused the BJP of “betraying” the Tiprasa community by delaying the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, which he said the party had promised to execute within six months. “It has been nearly 20 months, and nothing has moved,” he charged.

He also acknowledged that Tipra Motha’s decision to contest 42 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections was a “major strategic error” that paved the way for the BJP’s return to power.
“But this time BJP will face the consequences,” he warned.
“Khela hobe. This fight will be decisive—we will win at least 25 seats.”

“Ground reality has shifted”

Pradyot pointed to the massive turnout at the rally as evidence of a shifting political mood.
“Those who depend on money, administration, and the politics of keeping Tiprasa people poor must understand—the voters are united. Their emotions are with us. They will give their answer soon,” he said.

He dismissed rival parties as politically irrelevant, claiming the Congress is “nowhere on the ground,” the Left has “retreated,” and the BJP cannot expect indigenous support without fulfilling its promises.

He further claimed that had Tipra Motha contested only 20 Assembly seats last year, the BJP would not have retained power.
“That mistake will not be repeated. No party will get a backdoor entry due to our miscalculation,” he asserted.

Raises CAA concerns, demands land rights

Pradyot also referenced his pending CAA petition in the Supreme Court, questioning the Centre’s assurances that the Act would not apply in Sixth Schedule areas.

“In Tripura, Sixth Schedule exists, but without land rights anyone can enter—unlike other states. Our fight for land rights will continue,” he said.

With the TTAADC election countdown underway, Pradyot’s fiery speech has set the tone for what could be one of Tripura’s most high-voltage political battles in recent years.
