Williamnagar, August 1: Over a dozen pressure groups and concerned residents of North Garo Hills took to the streets on Thursday to demand urgent action in the case of a missing minor girl from Upper Rajasimla village under Kharkutta Block, who has been untraceable since July 18.

The rally, which began at the Kharkutta Mini Stadium and passed through the local market and neighbouring villages, saw participation from various organisations, including the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Kharkutta Regional Unit, Rajasimla Youth Council, Kharkutta Youth Organisation, A’chik Students’ Protection Forum (ASPF) Kharkutta Unit, GSU Northern Zone, AHAM Northern Zone, AAYF Dainadubi, GSU Dainadubi Unit, GSMC, DEO, and ADIL, among others. Students, community members, village headmen, sordars and Rev. J.D. Marak of the Rajasimla Baptist Congregation also joined the protest march.
Speaking during the rally, Bintu Sangma, General Secretary of GSU Northern Zone, urged families and communities to remain vigilant and protective of young girls and youth to prevent similar incidents. He emphasised the collective responsibility of society in safeguarding children.
Leaders from the participating organisations called on the state government and the police department to intensify their search efforts and provide financial support to the family of the missing girl, who continues to remain untraceable even two weeks after her disappearance.
The incident has sparked growing concern in the region, with residents demanding accountability and swift action from the authorities.
