Punjab launches AI-driven career guidance in govt schools

Must read

Shillong, Dec 23: The Punjab government on Sunday launched a first-of-its-kind initiative to integrate artificial intelligence-driven career guidance into its public school system, marking a significant step toward equitable career planning for students.

Under the pilot phase, 25 AI-enabled Career Guidance Labs were inaugurated in government and Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)-affiliated schools.

The pilot inauguration was conducted at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Nangal, and Government Senior Secondary School for Girls (GSSSG), Anandpur Sahib, marking the operational rollout of this student-focused initiative.

The inauguration followed a structured, student-centric process demonstrating the real-time functioning of the Career Guidance Labs implemented with Beyond Mentor.

Students first undertook AI-enabled aptitude and interest assessments conducted through Beyond Mentor’s career guidance platform.

Based on these assessments, Beyond Mentor generated individualized career reports, which were shared with students in detail.

This was followed by structured one-to-one counselling sessions delivered by Beyond Mentor’s professional counsellors, including joint counselling sessions with parents, ensuring clarity, transparency, and informed decision-making.

The process highlighted how Beyond Mentor integrates technology with counselling expertise to support early, data-driven, and student-focused career planning within the school ecosystem.

Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains said, “Career guidance is as important as academic instruction. By introducing structured counselling within government schools, we are ensuring that students receive timely exposure to careers, skills, and opportunities. This initiative will help students make informed choices and prepare confidently for the future. Gradually, we plan to expand these Career Guidance Labs to other schools across the state, and we welcome support from NGOs and other partners to help build better labs and ensure holistic development for our students.”

Dr. Amarpal Singh, Chairman, Punjab School Education Board, said: “Education must go beyond examinations and marks. Career guidance plays a vital role in helping students identify their strengths and translate aspirations into achievable goals. This pilot reflects PSEB’s commitment to providing quality career guidance free of cost to students across Punjab Board–affiliated schools.”

Saurav Kumar, CEO, Beyond Mentor, said:
“This programme helps children understand their interests, abilities, and personality early through AI-based assessments and structured counselling with parents. It aims to build clarity, confidence, and self-awareness, guiding students toward informed career choices and overall development.”

Akshita, Class 9 student, Government Senior Secondary School, Nangal, said:
“Earlier, we only knew about a few common career options. Through the counselling session, we learned about many new possibilities. Such guidance is usually available in private schools, but now it is available in our government school as well.”

Vishal Sharma, father of Akshita, shared:
“It is reassuring to see career counselling being conducted so systematically, with parents actively involved. This initiative will help students plan their future with clarity and confidence.”

Sharan, Class 6 student, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Anandpur Sahib, said: “This programme helped me understand my interests and personality better. It will help me choose the right career path with confidence.”

The pilot implementation across 25 schools will serve as a scalable model for expanding AI-enabled career guidance across Punjab, with continued implementation and support from Beyond Mentor.

The initiative represents a significant step toward equitable education, informed career decision-making, and student empowerment aligned with the needs of 21st-century learners.
