Guwahati, Nov 15: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday presented the ‘Sons of the Soil Emerging Achievers Award’ to five young individuals from Assam during the 5th Biennial Son of the Soil Awards Assam 2025, organised by Care Luit in Tezpur.
The ceremony celebrated Assam’s rising talent across diverse sectors, highlighting the state’s growing contribution to India’s development landscape.
This year, the Emerging Achievers Award went to Sukrita Baruah (Media & Communication), Sanghamitra Kalita (Entrepreneurship), Isharani Baruah (Sports), Himjyoti Talukdar (Art & Culture) and Dr. Debjani Borah (Conservation) for their excellence, innovation, and dedication in their respective fields.
Speaking at the event, Sonowal said the awards symbolise the aspirations and energy of Assam’s youth. “The spirit of excellence and resilience has always defined the people of Assam. These young achievers represent a progressive and confident generation committed to nation-building,” he said, adding that meaningful work is rooted in honesty, discipline, and hard work.
Urging young people across Assam and the Northeast to draw inspiration from the awardees, Sonowal noted, “Each of today’s recipients has shown what is possible when one believes in their dreams and works tirelessly. Let their achievements spark motivation and hope as we build a strong, self-reliant society.”
Sonowal also presented the Lifetime Achievement Awards to Arun Nath (Art & Culture), Ravi Shankar Ravi (News-Media), Mainuddin Ahmed (Sports), Lakhimi Baruah (Entrepreneurship) and Simanta Das (Public Service), honouring their long-standing contributions that have influenced and shaped generations.
