Guwahati, Nov 12: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting on the development of the Matabari Tourism Circuit in Tripura, emphasising the Centre’s vision to position the state as a global destination for cultural, spiritual, and eco-tourism.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha also attended the meeting, which reviewed ongoing and proposed initiatives to transform the state’s tourism landscape.
Detailed presentations were made on projects designed to enhance connectivity and infrastructure — including plans to boost international operations from Agartala airport, redesign iconic attractions like Neer Mahal, Tepania, Jampui Pura, and Udaipur, and develop the Dumbur islands under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to attract private investment and ensure sustainable growth.

Scindia underscored the importance of integrating conservation-focused architecture and skill development into the tourism plan. He stressed capacity building across seven key verticals, including local guides and allied services, to generate employment and strengthen the state’s tourism ecosystem.
The Minister also urged officials to draw from global best practices and take cues from successful destination models such as Lakshadweep, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Kevadia in Gujarat, to deliver a world-class experience to visitors.

Reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making every state a global tourism hub, Scindia said the Centre remains committed to unlocking Tripura’s immense potential. “The Matabari Tourism Circuit is not just an infrastructure project — it is a gateway to showcase Tripura’s rich cultural, spiritual, and natural heritage to the world,” he said.
