Dibrugarh, Nov 24: Security forces have detained three youths who were allegedly preparing to join the banned militant outfit ULFA (Independent).
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the trio was apprehended from Kharsang in Arunachal Pradesh. They were reportedly in touch with self-styled ULFA(I) leader Arunodoy Dohotia and had been hiding in the area for the past five days awaiting orders to cross over and formally join the outfit.
The detained youths have been identified as Nabutam Baolary, Jayanta Konwar, and Monjit Neog, all residents of Maithong village under Kakopathar in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

“We have detained the three and are interrogating them to trace their communication links and identify the network behind their attempted recruitment,” a senior security official said.
Security operations have been intensified along the Assam–Arunachal border following the incident.
The action comes on the same day that ULFA(I)’s self-styled Major General Arunoday Dohotia and his personal security officer Franchis Axom surrendered before security forces at Pangsau Pass on the Indo-Myanmar border. The high-ranking commander’s surrender is being seen as a significant blow to ULFA(I) and a boost to ongoing peace and stabilization efforts in the region.
