Imphal, Oct 5: In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces have arrested seven more militants from different districts of Manipur and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and narcotic substances in separate operations over the past 24 hours.
The arrested individuals are reportedly associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA)/Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) — two of the state’s most active militant groups. The arrests were made across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.
The PLA, one of Manipur’s oldest insurgent outfits with its political wing RPF, has been primarily active in the Imphal valley region.
Recovered arms include a 9 mm carbine submachine gun with a magazine, a .303 rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and live rounds, a .32 pistol with a magazine, ten locally made single-barrel bolt-action guns, and a pull mechanism rifle.
In a separate operation, forces also recovered 2,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹16.66 lakh from the residence of Chinhat (44) in Tuibong village, Churachandpur district.
