Guwahati, Aug 3: Police arrested seven students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Rangia (JNV-Rangia) in Assam’s Kamrup district following allegations of sexual assault on a Class VI student.
The school authorities informed the police on Friday, following the victim’s family’s complaint to the school. A FIR was registered with the Rangia Police Station.
According to police, the accused, all minors from Class XI, have been sent to a juvenile home for 14 days by a juvenile court in Amingaon.
“The sexual assault was going on for the last two to three months, involving senior students of the same school,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, the victim’s medical examination has been conducted, and further statements have been recorded by the police.
“The statements from the school authorities and other students are being recorded along with the girl. The school authorities are supporting us in the investigation, and we are trying to collect all the digital evidence, including the available CCTV footage,” said the police officer.
