One accused nabbed, car used in crime seized
Shillong, June 5: Two brothers sustained serious injuries after being stabbed with a knife by two miscreants who attempted to rob a car workshop in Mawlai Nongkwar, Block-13, early Thursday morning.
According to police reports, the two suspected thieves arrived in a local taxi bearing registration number ML-06-5732, equipped with sharp weapons and tools intended for the theft.
The headman of Mawlai Nongkwar Block-13, Wanphrang Swer said the incident occurred when the two suspects were trying to break into the workshop.
The two brothers, who live nearby, heard suspicious noises and rushed out to stop them. In the scuffle, the attackers stabbed both men with a knife.
One of the brothers was stabbed in the abdomen, and the other in the arm. Both sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to Robert Hospital, Shillong for treatment.
The victims have been identified as Wallamkupar Warjri (31) and Mebanrapbor Warjri (29), sons of Ioanis Lyngdoh.
Police managed to arrest one of the suspects, while the other fled the scene.
The arrested man has been identified as Debarlang Kharmusulmar (29), son of Victor Thongni, a resident of Mawsyrpat, Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills.
The vehicle allegedly used for the crime has also been seized by the police.
The accused has been handed over to police custody and an investigation is underway.
Efforts to trace the second suspect are ongoing.
