Guwahati, April 11: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a re-poll at just one polling station in Assam following post-poll scrutiny of records from the recently concluded Assembly elections, underscoring what officials described as a largely smooth and transparent voting process across the state.
According to an official press note issued on Friday, the lone re-poll will be held at Polling Station 239, Babyland High English School, under 123 Karimganj North Assembly Constituency, on April 11 (Saturday).
The decision came after detailed scrutiny of Form 17A (Register of Voters) and other poll-day documents from all 296 Assembly constituencies that went to polls across Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, along with select bypoll seats in other states.
In Assam alone, polling was conducted across tens of thousands of booths, contributing to a nationwide total of 63,084 polling stations reviewed. The Commission said that after the verification process, only one re-poll was deemed necessary, reflecting minimal irregularities.
The scrutiny process was carried out in the presence of Returning Officers and General Observers, with all 1,899 candidates informed in advance and allowed to participate, ensuring transparency.
“The entire process was videographed, and all documents were re-sealed after scrutiny,” the Commission stated.
