Shillong, June 11: After a day long wait, all the five accused in the sensational Sohra murder case, including alleged mastermind Sonam Raghuvanshi, were finally produced before the Court of the District and Sessions Judge in Shillong on Wednesday evening. The accused were brought to court following extensive paperwork and other necessary formalities, police confirmed.
The five individuals, identified as Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and the three alleged contract killers Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, were brought to Shillong in the early hours of Wednesday. Police sources had earlier revealed that all five have confessed to their involvement in the brutal killing of Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s husband, though these confessions are yet to be formally recorded before a magistrate to make them admissible in court.
Earlier, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, said a 10-day police custody is being sought for the accused
Following the police custody, the interrogation will start.
On the reconstruction of the crime scene, Syiem said it will be done after examination and recording statements of the accused. “We have to examine them first. Once examination has been finalized, statements recorded, get to the facts of the matter, then SIT will decide the date where we’ll go for the reconstruction of the crime scene,” he said.
He also stated that Sonam underwent a thorough check-up at Ganesh Das Government Hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, that including pregnancy test which was negative. He said Sonam will undergo another test for pregnancy after June 24.
On the other hand, the four accused men were checked by a resident doctor in the Sadar Police Station on Wednesday. “Only Sonam was taken to Ganesh Das Hospital… the other four were examined by a resident doctor in the Sadar Police Station itself,” he said.
He also added that as of now there are 5 accused, and involvement of more people, if any, would be revealed after investigation progresses. “As investigation progresses, we’ll be able to ascertain if more were involved or not,” Syiem said.
