Sub Centre under PM-ABHIM inaugurated at Watregre in SWGH

AMPATI, March 07: Rangsakona MLA Subir M. Marak on March 7th, 2024 inaugurated the Watregre Songma Sub Centre under Rerapara C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills district. The MLA unveiled the plaque in the presence of Assistant Commissioner and Rerapara Block Development Officer, Armand Ch Momin, District Medical & Health Officer Dr. H. Barman, District MCH Officer Dr Noreen A Sangma, Rangsakona PHC Medical & Health Officer in-charge Dr. Hollington A. Sangma and Nokma of Watregre village amongst others.

The much needed Sub-Centre was constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme and is the first such medical facility to be inaugurated in Garo Hills of Meghalaya. The PM-ABHIM is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with some Central Sector Components, for implementation of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package for health sector. The objective of the scheme is to fill critical gaps in health infrastructure, surveillance and health research, spanning both the urban and rural areas so that the communities are empowered in managing pandemic or health crises.

The Sub Centre constructed at an estimated cost of ₹ 55 lakhs will cater to the medical needs of five thousand plus individuals of fourteen villages in the adjoining areas of Watregre village.

Addressing the gathering Rangsakona MLA Subir M Marak stated that with the inauguration of the Sub Centre the government has brought medical services to their doorstep of the people. He urged the people to treat it as an asset and look after it as their own property. Speaking on the hardship of the medical fraternity in providing medical services to interior and far flung areas, Sh. Marak said that the government has made it a priority to provide medical services to such areas.

The MLA during the programme urged the people to opt for institutional delivery to avoid complications during child birth and to mitigate loss of life.

District Medical & Health Officer, Dr. H Barman in his address stated that the Sub Centre was the first of its kind to be inaugurated under the scheme in the entire Garo Hills and congratulated the people of the region.

Earlier, District MCH Officer Dr Noreen A Sangma gave a brief keynote address on the PM-ABHIM scheme and said that the Government of India is taking into consideration the Covid pandemic formulated plan to strengthen the Public Health Infrastructure, effectively manage and respond towards any future pandemics and outbreaks.

Prior to the inaugural session participants’ availed free medical checkups at the sub centre. IECs on Mental health and the benefits of institutional delivery were also given during the pre-inaugural session.
