In a major boost to Northeast’s river-connectivity grid, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has signed a series of high-value MoUs with Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd., the Government of Assam, multiple private partners and started work on accelerating inland water transport projects with different state governments.

In a historic step towards reviving Assam’s river-based trade and boosting sustainable logistics, National Waterway-57 (River Kopili) was operationalised today with the first-ever cargo trial run from Govardhan Bridge in Chandrapur, Kamrup, to Hatsingimari in South Salmara.

In a significant move to enhance inland water transport (IWT) infrastructure, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and has approved several key projects during its 197th Board Meeting held recently.
