The ACHIK's hunger strike was initiated by a group of activists demanding immediate retrospective implementation of the roster system and making Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya.

The program was organsied at the District library Auditorium, Tura with the theme " people first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention".

Multiple teams comprising personnel from the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) and equipped with JCBs (hydraulic excavators) were deployed to clear the garbage from the stream's banks and safely restore it to its original position.

After the landslide at the Rongkhon Songgital landfill site which is used as the garbage dumping site for Tura, West Garo Hills, on June 22, 2023, which brought tonnes of waste very near to the stream flowing next to it, the district administration has taken steps to ensure that such incidents don’t occur in future.

However, various agencies and the community are working to raise awareness on the issue to educate the youth of the dire consequences of drug abuse or substance abuse.

The proclamation of this special day aligns with the significance of the 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.' It serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in combating drug-related issues. With the aim of promoting consciousness and making a positive impact, the district seeks to cultivate a serene environment by encouraging citizens to abstain from unnecessary honking.
