The Jaintia Joint Action Committee Border Issue (JJACBI) comprising various organizations of Khasi and Jaintia has submitted a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills against the alleged ‘persecution’ of people in Lapangap village due to land disputes and boundary issues with Karbi Anglong, Assam.
Cabinet Minister and MDA spokesperson, Paul Lyngdoh, on Thursday urged pressure groups to exercise restraint and handle sensitive issues like the interstate boundary dispute with greater responsibility. He cautioned them against using the State government as a target for criticism.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dhar informed that the state government has deployed additional police personnel for protection in the Lapangap area, where community clashes have been reported in the last few days.
Fresh clashes between the Karbi and Pnar (Jaintia) communities have erupted once again in Lapangap village along the inter-state border in West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday.
