Restaurants and hotels across Guwahati are under mounting pressure after a countrywide steep hike in commercial LPG prices came into effect on Friday, aggravating an ongoing supply crisis that has already strained the city’s hospitality sector for nearly two months.
The Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs on Saturday rejected claims of a domestic LPG shortage, saying 22,094 cylinders were supplied between March 25 and 27 and daily deliveries have returned to 7,300–7,400 — comparable to pre-crisis levels.
Minister in-charge Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Methodius Dkhar has informed that he has written to the Centre seeking a 50-60 percent increase in the supply of LPG to Meghalaya, citing the state's tourism industry and dependence on it.
