Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said he expects Meghalaya’s representation in Parliament to increase following delimitation, citing the state’s population and geographic extent, even as he strongly welcomed the Women’s Reservation Bill tabled in the special session of Parliament.
The Bill was brought in as soon as the proceedings started in the new Parliament House on Tuesday. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced this bill.
Reacting on the development, CM Sangma said he is happy about the bill as he believes in women empowerment and the State, which follows a matrilineal system, already socially empowers women.
