The Bill was brought in as soon as the proceedings started in the new Parliament House on Tuesday. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced this bill.
Reacting on the development, CM Sangma said he is happy about the bill as he believes in women empowerment and the State, which follows a matrilineal system, already socially empowers women.
Meghalaya's senior female legislator, Ampareen Lyngdoh, expressed her excitement over the Union cabinet passing the Women's Reservation Bill, which will reserve 33% of the seats for women in the Lok Sabha as well as assembly legislative seats.
