Territorial Army based in Shillong celebrates its Raising Day

Shillong, Oct 9: The 119 Territorial Army (Infantry Battalion), Assam located at Kenche’s Trace Shillong celebrated the Raising Day of the Territorial Army on Monday.

October 9 is celebrated to commemorate its raising by the first Governor General C Rajagopalachari on this day in 1949.

A number of formal and social functions were held in the run up to the celebrations.

On October 9, 2023, a Blood Donation Camp was organised at 119 TA , Assam on the occasion of TA Day in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong wherein a large number of volunteers took part in the noble activity .

The unit was also presented with a certificate of appreciation from NEIGRIHMS for the act.

The Territorial Army is a part of Regular Army and its present role is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist Civil Administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the security of the Country is threatened and to provide units for Regular Army as and when required.
