Must read

Tura, Sep 4: A massive peace rally was held in Tura on Thursday as the Non-Gazetted Employees Association of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), supported by civil society groups and the Joint NGOs Forum, took to the streets to press for the release of their long-pending dues.

The protest drew thousands of participants, including GHADC employees, opposition MDCs, traditional Nokmas and students from schools and colleges, reflecting the growing frustration over the prolonged financial crisis in the Council.

The rally commenced from the GHADC office at William Point and wound its way through Ringrey, the District Maternity & Child Hospital, Babupara, Tura Bazaar and Hawakhana, before concluding at the GHADC premises.

Protestors carried placards and shouted slogans demanding immediate payment of salaries while holding the GHADC executive committee and the state government accountable for the crisis.

Organizers of the rally asserted that the agitation would continue until their demands are fulfilled, underlining the scale of discontent among employees and stakeholders in the Garo Hills region.
