Three dead as flash flood ravages five houses in Yangang

GANGTOK, June 10: Three persons died as landslides and flash floods ravaged Majuwa village in Yangang under Namchi district in Sikkim. The three deceased have been identified as Yabha Subba, Bishal Rai and Manita Rai.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am on Monday, where after the heavy rainfalls from the previous night, flash floods were created upon many streams in Yangang. Namchi District Magistrate Annapurna Alley stated that “flash flood like situation occurred around Yangang village in many locations. They began from the foothills of Bhaleydhunga cliff above Yangang and soon a landslide and flash flood followed in many streams”.

The District Magistrate informed the five houses have been swept in Majuwa village. Three have been confirmed dead, with one injured rushed to District Hospital in Singtam.

Sources also claim that some of the injured have been rushed to STNM Hospital. The number of injured could be eight, informed a source.

Currently, the Singtam to Yangang route has been blocked at Sirsey. Dikchu road connecting North Sikkim has also been blocked near Makha.
