Tura, Aug 26: Police in West Garo Hills detained three Bangladeshi nationals on Monday afternoon after they were found travelling in a passenger bus near Kherapara Outpost around 1 pm.
The individuals were identified as Sumi Rani Das (27) of Sylhet, Ali Akbar (25) of Potuakhali and Arif Sikdar (22) of Potuakhali, all residents of Bangladesh.
From their possession, police recovered three mobile phones, a Bangladeshi passport and a Bangladeshi national identity card.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio had illegally crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border earlier in the day with the intention of travelling to Tamil Nadu for work.
A case has been registered at Dalu Police Station under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act and further investigation is underway.
