Jengjal, Nov 29: Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira on Friday reviewed preparations at Bolbokgre and Watrgre for the upcoming Me’gong Festival 2025, scheduled for December 5 and 6.
The fifth edition of the flagship cultural festival is expected to draw large local and tourist footfall, especially as the Government of Meghalaya has announced two major international additions to the lineup — British pop-R&B boy band Blue and Grammy-nominated reggae artist Julian Marley, son of music legend Bob Marley. They will join previously confirmed headliners Richard Marx and globally acclaimed electronic duo Yellow Claw, marking the festival’s most ambitious lineup to date.
Shira, accompanied by officials from the Tourism Department, BDO Rongram, SP (Traffic) and representatives from various line departments, inspected the festival zones earmarked for food courts, a brew village and twin performance stages. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he directed teams to ensure seamless arrangements for visitors and performers.
As part of the day’s itinerary, the Minister also visited the Mandalgre Eco Campsite in East Garo Hills, where he interacted with the Nokma and local villagers on community-led tourism. He later inspected the Huro Rescue Centre at Silchotchigre, reviewing wildlife rescue and conservation efforts.
Shira concluded his visit at the Chandigre Rural Tourism Resort, engaging with Tourism officials and residents. He lauded the community’s continued involvement in promoting rural and eco-tourism and urged strengthened cooperation to advance Meghalaya’s sustainable tourism landscape.
