Shillong, June 5: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has strongly criticised certain sections of the national media for what he termed biased and malicious reporting concerning the recent case of a missing couple from Indore.
Referring to the incident as an “isolated case,” Lyngdoh emphasised that the facts remain unclear and the investigation is ongoing. He stated, “It is unfair to draw conclusions or tarnish the image of Meghalaya based on one case.”

He accused some mainland media outlets of displaying prejudice against the Northeast and attempting to undermine Meghalaya’s growing tourism sector.
Lyngdoh highlighted that Sohra (Cherrapunjee) has a long and peaceful history with tourism, free from incidents of violence. He pointed to the presence of the Ramakrishna Mission and early missionaries as symbols of its peaceful legacy.
The Minister described the negative coverage as a “betrayal of understanding” and urged media houses to avoid speculation, ensuring fair and fact-based reporting while the investigation is still underway.
