Agartala, June 23: A massive awareness rally promoting a drug-free society was organised in Agartala on Monday.
The rally was conducted by the West Tripura District Administration in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education.
The event aimed to mobilise public support for a drug-free Tripura, as part of the run-up to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed globally on June 26.
Hundreds of students, NCC cadets, representatives from various NGOs and clubs, athletes, and concerned citizens marched through the streets of Agartala, raising their voices against drug abuse.
Their placards and slogans echoed messages of prevention, awareness about the devastating effects of drug abuse, and an urgent call for a united societal front to combat the menace.
Presiding over the event as chief guest, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy delivered a compelling message, underscoring the critical need for a collective movement that goes beyond government efforts.
“The state government alone cannot achieve a drug-free Tripura,” Roy asserted. “We need every citizen, including the media, to join hands in this battle. The administration can arrest traffickers and users, but awareness must begin at home and in society,” said Roy, who also holds the portfolio of Sports and Youth Affairs.
