Guwahati, June 10: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has formally taken possession of more than 10 acres of land allotted by the Assam government for the construction of a Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Guwahati, marking a major step towards establishing the first TTD temple in Northeast India.
The land parcel, measuring approximately 10.33 acres, is located at Amerigog in Kamrup Metropolitan district and was handed over to TTD officials following months of planning and coordination between the Assam government and the temple trust.
The project forms part of TTD’s nationwide initiative to establish at least one Sri Venkateswara temple in every Indian state and Union Territory. The trust, which manages the world-famous Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh, has identified Assam as its gateway to the Northeast.

The proposed temple is expected to serve devotees from across Assam and neighbouring Northeastern states, reducing the need for many pilgrims to travel thousands of kilometres to Tirupati for darshan. Besides the main shrine, plans include pilgrim facilities, accommodation and other amenities associated with major TTD temple complexes.
The journey to the land transfer saw several revisions. Initial discussions revolved around smaller parcels of land before the proposal evolved into a larger spiritual and cultural complex for the region. The project has received support from both the Assam and Andhra Pradesh governments.
Once completed, the temple is expected to emerge as one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimage centres in Northeast India and strengthen cultural links between the Northeast and southern India.
