Tura, Feb 28: National Science Day 2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Tura Science Centre, with students, educators and scientists coming together to promote scientific temper and innovation.
Organised by the Meghalaya Science Society, Tura, the day-long Festival of Science & Technology revolved around the theme, “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” Students from various secondary schools across West Garo Hills participated in lectures, technical demonstrations, model exhibitions and competitions.
The inaugural session was graced by Florina Boro, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Planning Officer, West Garo Hills. Addressing students, she urged them to take up challenges in science, mathematics and technology to excel in competitive examinations and contribute to nation-building.
Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, attended as the Guest of Honour and encouraged students to pursue academic excellence with dedication. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Madhusudhan Saha, Secretary of Meghalaya Science Society, who highlighted the organisation’s activities and the challenges of promoting scientific awareness in the region.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Yubraj Sharma, Assistant Professor of Physics at Don Bosco College, spoke on the rise of Artificial Intelligence and its far-reaching implications for society and education.
A major highlight of the technical session was an AI-mode quiz conducted by Prof. Dhiraj K. Rabha of the Chemistry Department, along with a Human Calendar demonstration by Prof. Habul Das, Head of the Mathematics Department. Students of Don Bosco College showcased innovative science models during the exhibition segment.
The valedictory session featured prize distribution by Singre M. Sangma, Scientist ‘D’, NIC, Government of India, and Pranab Bhowmick, Principal, Tura Public School.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Chandan Hajong, Assistant Teacher, LGB School, Tura.
