Shillong, June 27: The Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) qualified teachers from Tura Centre have urged the State government and the state education department to conduct interviews for the vacant posts of assistant teacher in Govt L.P. Schools.
They are extremely disheartened by the recent interview held for the post of assistant teacher in Govt. Lower Primary (L.P.) School under Tura division whereby 96 candidates were selected from 159 eligible candidates against the advertised 114 posts. However, in other districts of Garo Hills all the candidates appearing for the interview were selected.
In a press statement on Sunday, the MTET Passed Teachers Tura Centre informed that the government did not allow the MTET qualified and eligible candidates from Tura centre to apply in other districts and divisions even though there are less MTET qualified and eligible candidates in those district; and many school in other districts have closed down due to unavailability of MTET qualified teachers.
Citing that the advertisement does not explicitly state anything about restricting any MTET qualified candidates to apply in other divisions and districts in the state, they are concerned since the MTET means ‘Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test’ and should be applicable to all over Meghalaya state except in other medium of language.
They also stated that the MTET passed candidates from Tura centre are not getting the opportunity even in Non-Govt. L.P. school in others districts and divisions. Whereas many Non-Govt L.P. School are appointing candidates without MTET in other districts and divisions, thus violating the order given by the Government of Meghalaya, Education department Dated Shillong, the 1st July 2020 No. EDN.190/2011/Pt./333.
Additionally, there are many MTET Passed Trained Contractual teachers who are qualified in every manner for the post as per the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Act, Right To Education (RTE) Act, 2009 and have served as assistant teachers in Govt L.P. School since 2011.
But they were also not selected in the interview despites their vast teaching experience and qualified for the post.
Therefore, they urged the state government to address their grievances by providing a genuine solution and initiate in the interest of the education of the children.
