Shillong, Dec 7: Meghalaya began their campaign in the U-19 Women’s One Day Trophy with a nine-wicket defeat to Chhattisgarh in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Having won the toss, Meghalaya were dismissed for 92 after electing to bat first. Chhattisgarh then chased down the target for the loss of one wicket.
Three Meghalaya batters got into double figures – Ankita Sharma (16), Dubleen Nengnong (12) and Neelam Roy (10) – but were unable to push on for a big score and the team were all out in 45.3 overs.
Chhattisgarh polished off the required runs in just 13.2 overs, which meant that none of the Meghalayans were able to bowl that much, though Sharma did take 1/18 in the two overs she was given.
Meghalaya’s next encounter will be with Saurashtra on Thursday.
