Dibrugarh, Apr 30: Security forces have apprehended one ULFA-I cadre, ten overground workers (OGWs) and four drug peddlers with links to anti-national elements in a series of joint operations across Upper Assam.
According to an official statement, the operations were carried out in April 2026 by the Indian Army’s Red Shield Gunners under the aegis of Spear Corps, in coordination with Assam Police, in the districts of Tinsukia, Charaideo and Sivasagar.
“The operations, based on precise technical and human intelligence inputs, led to the apprehension of one ULFA (Independent) cadre, ten OGWs and four drug dealers with established links to anti-national elements. Narcotics were also recovered during the operations,” the statement said.

Officials said the coordinated action highlights the effectiveness of joint operations in dismantling support networks of insurgent groups and curbing illegal activities in the region.
The operations also underline the continued efforts of security forces to maintain law and order and prevent the recruitment of local youth into militant outfits.
Authorities added that sustained collaboration between the Army and Assam Police remains key to ensuring long-term stability and security across Upper Assam.
