Big show of Northeast tribal unity set for November 27 in Agartala
Agartala, Nov 22: In a significant political move that could reshape indigenous politics in the Northeast, Tipra Motha founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Saturday announced major strides in forming the proposed ‘One North East’ collective—an emerging alliance of tribal and regional parties across the region.
Addressing the media at MBB Airport, Pradyot said the effort to build a common political platform representing indigenous aspirations is “progressing faster than expected,” and aims to give the Northeast a stronger negotiating voice in national politics.
A mega rally has been scheduled at Agartala’s Vivekananda Maidan on November 27, where leaders from across the region—including Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma, along with prominent leaders from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and the hill autonomous regions—will take the stage together.
“We are building a new idea for the Northeast—a collective voice that speaks for the region as one,” Pradyot said, asserting that the platform could drive discourse on key issues like land rights, identity protections, and ILP across the Northeast.
He clarified that the initiative is not a merger of parties, but a political front rooted in unity without surrendering identity.
“No one is being asked to give up who they are. We want to strengthen each other and speak together. Delhi will listen when there is one voice instead of ten saying the same thing,” he said.

Pradyot confirmed ongoing discussions on a shared policy framework, common ideology, name, and even a flag. The priority, he stressed, is people’s issues—not party labels:
“The problems of the people must come before political signboards.”
The Tipra Motha chief also hinted that regional leaders are converging on long-standing common demands—from safeguarding indigenous land to constitutional protections—often raised separately but largely ignored by the Centre.
Leaders expected to join the rally include James K Sangma, NPP National Working President, Mmhonlumo Kikon, politician from Nagaland, autonomous council leaders Daniel Langthasa and others from Bodoland, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao, as well as Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front leader Ajoy Edwards.
