USTM scientist secures ISRO research project using data from India’s Aditya-L1 Mission

Must read

Guwahati, Oct 20: Bringing pride to Assam and the entire Northeast, Dr. Murchana Khusroo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been awarded a prestigious research project by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under its Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) programme.

A native of Danish Nagar, Jorhat, Dr. Khusroo’s project—“Multi-Spacecraft Investigation of Solar Wind Dynamics Through Solitary Wave Analysis: Insights from Aditya-L1 Mission”—is the first from Northeast India to utilize scientific data from the ASPEX (Aditya Solar Wind Particle Experiment) and MAG (Magnetometer) payloads of Aditya-L1, India’s first solar mission.

Dr. Khusroo will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) in collaboration with the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) and ISRO scientists. The project aims to study solar wind dynamics in the inner heliosphere, focusing on nonlinear plasma structures such as solitary waves, and to deepen scientific understanding of solar wind turbulence and space weather phenomena—key areas aligned with Aditya-L1’s core objectives.

Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Khusroo said, “It is an incredible opportunity to contribute to India’s solar mission and to represent the scientific potential of the Northeast on a national platform.”

Congratulating her, USTM Chancellor Shri Mahbubul Hoque said, “Dr. Murchana’s achievement is a moment of immense pride for USTM and the entire Northeast. It exemplifies our dedication to nurturing research and innovation that propel India’s scientific and technological growth.”
