Tura, June 26: With no drop in the active number of covid cases and rising death toll has led West Garo Hills DC, Ram Singh to extend the District Containment Measures for another week i.e. up to morning of 5th July in the district.
More and more people are still falling prey to the disease with infection rates remaining high and deaths still taking place.
In his order, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner announced that the district administration is extending the containment measures with effect from 28th June till the morning of 5th July 5th citing “a sharp and continuous spike in Covid-19 positive cases with more number of covid patients being admitted in Covid hospitals and Corona Care Centres from other districts of Garo Hills.”
According to the order, schools and colleges will still be kept closed, weekly markets will not be allowed to open, all religious places of worship will remain closed, no public or social gatherings will be allowed, entry of tourists from outside not permitted, restrictions on inter-state and inter-district movement unless permission is given, total lock down on Saturdays and Sundays, etc.
Saturday’s total number of active cases reached 597. There were 40 new positive cases detected.
Two deaths from covid have been reported from Garo Hills in last three days.
One 78 year old man having cardiac problem from Shyamding village of Phulbari tested positive for covid. He was referred by doctors from Phulbari Commuinyt Health Centre hospital to Tura civil Hospital for specialized treatment but he died one day later at home after family refused to take him to Tura. An elderly woman aged 76 from Bainapara village of Betasing, South West Garo Hills district brought to Tura civil hopsital for covid treatment died from pneumonia.
