West Garo Hills lead in Covid-19 vaccination drive in the State

Tura, Feb 12: West Garo Hills leads in the Corona Virus vaccination drive in Meghalaya with 2,806 health care workers were vaccinated till Thursday with an overall performance percentage of the District is 58.08.  However, South West Garo Hills District witnesses 71.3 as the overall percentage in performance although 949 health care workers recovered the vaccination jabs against the target of 1417.

A total of 11,450 health care workers received the coronavirus vaccine jab as on Thursday.

This was against the target of 17,585 health care workers who have registered for the vaccination programme.

With this, the overall achievement of the vaccination drive is 34.50 percent, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said.

While 2,694 are vaccinated in East Khasi Hills, 276 were vaccinated in South West Khasi hills and 362 were vaccinated in Ri Bhoi. The Vaccine hesitancy continues in Ri Bhoi District with only 15.9 percent performance reported.

As the inoculation reaches its third week, Health workers in Meghalaya are “reluctant” to take the vaccine shots, with only 34.50 percent of the over 33,000 beneficiaries having turned up for inoculation thus far, a senior official said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the state has recorded 7 new coronavirus cases and 5 recoveries on Thursday.

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said all 7 new cases were detected from East Khasi Hills district.

He said the patients who recovered from the viral infection include 2 from East Khasi Hills district, 1 West Jaintia Hills district, 1 West Khasi Hills district and 1 Ri Bhoi district.

So far, the state has detected a total of 13,931 coronavirus cases out of which 166 are active cases, 13,617 recovered and 148 deaths.

East Khasi Hills has 109 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 29, Ri Bhoi 22, East Jaintia Hills 3, West Khasi Hills 2 and West Garo Hills 1.

On the other hand, of the 3,50,493 persons who have tested for coronavirus in the state as on date, 3,36,562 were tested negative for the virus even as 52 persons are in institutional quarantine and 114 under home quarantine.
