West Jaiñtia Trained Nurse Association celebrates International Nurses Day 2024

Jowai, May 13: International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 12th to honor the nurses who serve as the guardians of health, commemorating Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Honoring the invaluable contribution of nurses, the Trained Nurses Association of India, West Jaintia Hills Unit, celebrated Nurses Day today at Bishops House Lumbihsyntu, Mihmyntdu, West Jaintia Hills District. The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Shri. Ferdinand B Basan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai.

Dr. N. Nongtdu from Woodland WK Hospital, Sabahmuswang, West Jaintia Hills District, attended as the guest of honor, and Smt. I Kharduit, Assistant Director of Nursing, President TNAI State Branch, graced the event as a special guest.

The theme of International Nurses Day is “Our Nurse. Our Future. The economic power of care,” highlighting not only the essential role of nurses in healthcare but also the economic impact of their work and the value of compassionate care.

Shri. F.B Basan, the chief guest, acknowledged and appreciated the nursing fraternity for their unwavering commitment and compassionate care to society. He emphasized the immeasurable contribution of nurses to society and encouraged them to continue their good work. Basan advised nurses to seize opportunities to step away from their professional duties occasionally, giving themselves a chance to unwind and rejuvenate to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N. Nongtdu shared a personal testimony about the importance of nurses in his own healing journey. He underscored the vital role nurses play in providing round-the-clock care and support to patients, referring to them as the backbone of healthcare and the guardians and protectors of patients.

Meba-ai Talang, Nursing Tutor from Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai, in her keynote address, highlighted the importance of the theme, “Our Nurse. Our Future. The economic power of care.” She emphasized how nurses are instrumental in shaping the future of the healthcare system and how their compassionate care holds significant economic value.

The Nurse Association also presented mementos to retired nurses in recognition of the invaluable service they rendered throughout their careers.

I Kharduit, Assistant Director of Nursing, President TNAI State Branch, also spoke at the occasion.

Dr. A. Paswet, Medical Superintendent, Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong, and Dr. War, Medical Superintendent, MCH, Panaliar, were also present.
