Who are Shilom James and Ballu? The latest arrests in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

Must read

Shillong, June 22: The intricate web surrounding the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi has tightened further with the arrest of two new individuals from Indore: Shilom James, a property dealer, and Balbir Ahirbar, alias ‘Ballu’, a security guard.

Both these arrests have been confirmed by Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem. They have been arrested on charges of trying to remove evidence.

Shilom James, a property dealer and leasee, had rented a flat in Indore’s Hirabagh locality to Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of the main accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. It is in this very flat that Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja’s wife and a co-accused, is believed to have stayed for over 10 days after escaping from Sohra in Meghalaya on May 23.

Police sources revealed that CCTV footage captured James removing a bag belonging to Sonam from the flat after her arrest. His detention is being linked to the suspected disappearance of several key items considered crucial to the investigation.

“Both individuals are expected to be produced in court at Indore. Transit remand will be obtained to bring them to Shillong for further legal proceedings,” Syiem said.

James’s apprehension was not without drama; he was reportedly caught while attempting to flee at the Bhonrasa Toll Gate in Dewas district around 7:30 PM on Saturday night. His alleged actions raise serious questions about his knowledge of the crime and his willingness to aid the accused in evading justice.

The second individual arrested is Balbir Ahirbar, commonly known as Ballu. He served as the security guard of the building where the aforementioned flat is located. Police suspect that Ballu holds vital information related to the movements of the accused and other developments within the premises. His position as a security guard would have provided him with direct observations of who entered and exited the building, and potentially, who aided James in his alleged actions.

Both Shilom James and Balbir Ahirbar are expected to be produced in court in Indore. Transit remand will be obtained to bring them to Shillong for further legal proceedings and intensive interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police.
