Shillong, March 22: A two-day national workshop on “Integrating Indian Knowledge System in Researches in Social Science and Humanities” got underway in the city on Friday. The workshop aims to build upon the Indian knowledge practices and philosophies and how to integrate them into modern education system.
The workshop has been organised by the Indian Council of Social Science Research – North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC), Shillong.
In the inaugural address, K C Baral, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of EFL University, pointed out the divergent ways of western and Indian thoughts and said, “We try to parallel our education system with the west every time… but with this workshop we try to bring our ancient civilizational system to our current educational system.”
Prof. Bhagirathi Panda, Director of ICSSR-NERC, asserted that the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is the compiled knowledge of all Indian institutions across all the ages and IKS is also helpful in fulfilling the sustainable development goals of our country.”
The coordinator of the programme Dr. Arzuman Ara pointed out how the mythical paradigms dominate the life of ours as a mode of knowledge of human life and existence.
The workshop apprises the young researchers with the great tradition, its nuances and how we can academically engage with Indian knowledge system and make it more meaningful critically and rationally without being blindly emotional about it. It is aimed to give directions for further researches relevant for today’s world of digital humanities and post-human conditions.
The two-day workshop, which will end on Saturday, was attended by various dignitaries including experts, professors, researchers and students from across the country.
