Must read

Shillong, Nov 17: The Umbrella Project – Workshop on various Arts which includes empanelment of all artists and cultural organisations of the various Art Forms was conducted in the city at State Central Library, Shillong.

The Workshops conducted were on Film Making (Script Writing), Theatre and Traditional String Instruments (Duitara and Dotrong) by Dominic Sangma, Lapdiang Syiem, Dr. Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh and Gabriel G. Momin, respectively.

The Umbrella Project was conceptualised in the year 2019 with the aim to bring together all art disciplines under one umbrella beginning with an introduction to new evolving mediums and also to revive the dying art forms through Workshops on Performing art, Visual and Fine art. The concept was to bring all interested participants from all the eleven districts, then to learn and interact under the guidance of renowned local talent.

However with the occurrence of the COVID 19 pandemic, the idea was about to be omitted or at the least shrunk to an online mode which was feasible only to a few Arts. Through a discussion based on the occurring situation, the Project was shortened and was agreed upon for online mode, feasible only for Film Making (Scriptwriting), Theatre and Traditional Strings Instruments. Yet, with the improvement of time, the response for online mode was minimal and the approval for online was converted to Offline mode.

The Umbrella Project 2022 includes the Empanelment of Artists and Cultural Organisations for the following main reasons:
1. A database for the Department.
2. Detailed information of each Artists and Cultural Organisations.
3. Purpose to gather the material to all agencies who require the said information.
