Speaking at the Youth Conclave titled “Our Future in our Hands”, organised by National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) at Imphal West, Manipur on Friday, he said he has always advocated that the youth of the country are our greatest advantage and strength and, at the same time, they are also our greatest challenge. If the nation can channelize the energy of the youth in a constructive manner, it will be the greatest strength of India. And if their energy cannot be channelized in the right channel and right direction, it can become the biggest destructive force of this nation.
“That is why I tell people that the youth are our biggest strength and our biggest challenge. This is why, as a government, as politician and as political party, we must give the direction and the policy as to how we will channelize this greatest strength of our country,” he asserted.
NPP’s vision for Youth – One Skill One Talent
On NPP’s vision for the youth, he advocated for bringing out different kinds of programmes which involves skilling the youth such as mandatory training for the talent they have, creating different kind of youth clubs, creating different kinds of platforms and forums such as environment forum, economic forum, music forum, sports forum.
“We need to create that platform to allow the energy to be engaged. That is the only way to ensure that we are able to positively use that energy for the nation building and for constructive purpose,” Sangma said.
At the same time, he informed that the party has come out with the policy of ‘One Skill One Talent’, which will engage the youth from an early age and guide them towards the right direction.
“With that we intend to ensure that every youth in the state must be given a talent in which they are interested and we must allow them to be pushed… and one skill mandatory apart from the education that we give them to every youth in our state,” he informed adding the party feels that youth must be engaged.
Child Development Programmes
The NPP chief also pushed for having ‘Early Child Development Programmes’ in place. He said children for the age of 5 onwards, when they are eager to learn and can absorb the most should be guided by such programmes.
“I would urge that we should ensure that the young generation are engaged… children who are at the age of 5-8 years, when they are learning and have the capacity to absorb the most and are ready to learn the most. Government must focus on early child development programmes. As NPP, this also is one of our main agendas towards engaging the youth,” he informed.Later in the programme, two intending women candidate who will contest upcoming Manipur election were also welcomed in the party by NPP chief Conrad Sangma.
