DIBRUGARH, June 10: A missing girl case in Dibrugarh has sparked controversy after a hotel owner alleged vandalism and trespass during a late-night search operation, while hotel employees claimed they were assaulted after police recovered the girl from a hotel room.
The incident unfolded at a hotel in the Jeevan Phukan Nagar area on the night of June 8, when police, acting on information about a missing girl, conducted a search of the premises.
In a complaint lodged with Dibrugarh Police Station, the proprietor of Dibrugarh Address alleged that a group led by one Pulin Gogoi forcibly entered the hotel around 10:30 pm, damaged property, and assaulted two employees, identified as Pinaki Choudhury and Amar Doley.
The hotel owner claimed that glass fixtures, flower pots and other property were vandalised, causing substantial financial losses. The complaint seeks registration of an FIR and legal action against those involved, with the proprietor stating that CCTV footage and photographs would be submitted as evidence.
Hotel staff, however, offered a different account of the events. According to them, police arrived at the hotel following reports of a missing girl and were given full access to CCTV footage and other information sought during the investigation.
Employees claimed police reviewed surveillance footage for nearly 30 minutes before locating the missing girl in Room No. 204. They maintained that the girl was found unharmed and had not formally checked into the hotel.

According to the staff, tensions escalated soon after the girl was traced. They alleged that several individuals entered the premises and physically assaulted hotel employees. Staff members further claimed that the girl’s mother was among those involved in the confrontation. Some hotel workers were later detained or taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Eyewitnesses involved in the search for the girl said local residents had spent hours tracking her movements through CCTV footage. Some also alleged dissatisfaction with the initial police response, claiming the matter was initially viewed as a family dispute rather than a potential security concern.
The incident has raised questions about how the girl entered the hotel room, whether standard guest-verification procedures were followed, and the circumstances that led to the alleged vandalism and assault.
Police have yet to issue a detailed statement addressing the allegations and counter-allegations. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage, hotel records and witness statements as part of the probe.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and many of the claims made by the parties involved are yet to be independently verified.
Further details are awaited.
