SHILLONG, JUN 23: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs and Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday announced that more than 15 new buses will be inducted into service from July 3, while urging departments to ensure proper maintenance of the existing fleet.
Dhar said the government has consistently advised bus operators and drivers to maintain vehicles so they do not become unfit within 1-2 years.
“From time to time we have asked bus operators and drivers to maintain the buses. It should not be in such a manner that after only 1-2 years, these buses are condemned. We keep requesting those who look after these buses to maintain them,” Dhar said.

He said a meeting was held last month to review the condition of buses and improve passenger experience.“Last month I had called a meeting on this to ensure that these buses look presentable, so that people are encouraged to use them,” he stated.
The new buses will be flagged off from the ISBT and will operate on multiple routes across the city.
“On 3 July I will inaugurate new buses on a different line and these buses will be released from ISBT, covering different routes. There are 15-plus new buses,” he said.
Dhar noted that several departments, including Planning, Municipal, and MUDA, currently use government buses, and asked them to take responsibility for upkeep.
“These buses are being used by different departments like Planning, Municipal, MUDA, etc. We are requesting them to maintain these buses properly from now onward,” he added.
