3-year-old child killed by uncle in West Khasi Hills

Shillong, April 22: In a shocking incident, a 3.5-year-old child was brutally hacked to death by his own uncle in Umdang village under Shallang Police Station, West Khasi Hills on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 1:45 PM when the accused, identified as Imphal Mawsor (around 50 years old), allegedly attacked the child with a Khasi dao while the victim was returning home from school. The child had reportedly reached close to his residence when the assault took place.

The attack, described as extremely brutal, resulted in fatal head injuries, leading to the child’s death on the spot.

Following the incident, officers from Shallang Police Station, along with the SDPO of Mawshynrut, rushed to the scene and initiated necessary action. A Forensic Crime Scene Unit also examined the site and collected evidence.

Police confirmed that the accused is the victim’s uncle. He has since been arrested and an investigation is currently underway.

Meanwhile, legal formalities are being observed, and the body has been sent to Civil Hospital, Nongstoin for post-mortem examination.
