SHILLONG, APR 22: The Commerce and Industries Department has launched a three-month residential internship programme in film making under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme, in collaboration with the Prag Film and Television Institute (PFTI), Guwahati.

The programme commenced on Wednesday with 60 interns from across different districts of Meghalaya joining the first batch.

The initiative aims to enhance skill development, employability, and entrepreneurship opportunities for the state’s youth in the film, media, and creative industries.

The internship is fully residential, and the Commerce and Industries Department will provide a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 to each intern for the entire duration.

During the internship, PFTI will provide comprehensive hands-on training along with theoretical inputs in film making.

“Interns will gain exposure to pre-production, production, and post-production processes, including technical and creative aspects of film and television,” the department said. Training sessions will be conducted at PFTI’s campuses in Akshat Tower, Lalmati, and Prag Tower, Ulubari, Guwahati.

“The programme reflects the Government of Meghalaya’s commitment, under RAMP, to develop skilled human resources, strengthen the MSME ecosystem, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth of the state, particularly in emerging sectors such as media, entertainment, and creative entrepreneurship,” the department said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the North Eastern media industry, including Dr. Sanjive Narain, CMD of Prag News, Jitendra Ashit Chutia, CEO, and Rajesh Bhuyan, Channel Head of Rengoni.

Speaking at the event, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of technical skill-building in the film and television sector.

“The program aims to provide aspiring filmmakers from Meghalaya with hands-on experience, industry exposure, and the necessary tools to professionalize their craft, eventually contributing to the MSME sector in the region,” they said.

The department added that the residential nature of the course ensures students receive “immersive, around-the-clock training in various aspects of production, editing, and storytelling.”

“This collaborative initiative is expected to contribute significantly to nurturing local talent, promoting storytelling from Meghalaya, and enabling participants to pursue careers or enterprises in the film and media industry,” it said.
