5th Meghalaya Games | Table Tennis | Stage set for fierce battle between national players of EKH & WGH

Tura, Jan 18: The Day-4 of the 5th Edition of the Meghalaya Games kicked-off on Thursday with the highly anticipated Table Tennis matches at Tura Indoor Stadium, Hawakhana, Tura.

West Garo Hills – Di Toomi Velerie Ch. Momin (Women)

The Table Tennis event hosts 31 players from 4 districts – East Khasi Hills (EKH) having 12 players, West Garo Hills (WGH) – 8 players, Ri Bhoi – 4 players, and 3 players from South Garo Hills (SGH).

Veteran- East Khasi Hills’ Gilbert Sohtun at 66 years age competing in the Men’s open category

Adding flair to the game is the participation of three veteran players: Gilbert Sohtun at an astounding age of 66, Pynlang Sohtun at 56 years old, and Paokho Tinhang Haokip at 55 years old, all representing East Khasi Hills.

East Khasi Hills’ Sandeep Kumar (Men)

East Khasi Hills, being the largest contingent, sees the participation of 11 national players, with East Khasi Hills’ Sandeep Kumar (Men) as the Player-to-Watch, who recently represented Meghalaya in Senior National, Haryana, and has won Medals at the North East Olympics. West Garo Hills fields 7 National players, with West Garo Hills’ Di Toomi Velerie Ch. Momin (Women) as the Player-to-Watch, who played in Nationals Haryana.

The fixture is divided into Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The first round matches will be held on Thursday, while all final rounds will be played on Friday.
