6 year old girl missing in Rajasimla; Agatha visits family, assures full support

Must read

Tura, July 23: A six-year-old girl has gone missing under mysterious circumstances from Rajasimla in North Garo Hills since July 18.

The search is ongoing in full force and is being closely monitored by the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR).

The child was last seen near her home in broad daylight in Rajasimla. Notably, Rajasimla was one of the first villages visited by American Baptist missionaries in the 1860s–70s, and the first Garo Baptist Church was established there in 1867.

Since the day she went missing, villagers, police, and volunteers have been combing the dense forests of Rajasimla and Rangsa, but as of today, there is still no trace of her.

The case gained urgency on the night of July 21, when the Chairperson of the MSCPCR, Agatha Sangma, took cognizance of the situation and directed authorities to intensify the search.

On Wednesday, Agatha Sangma personally visited Rajasimla to assess the situation and ensure that every effort is being made to trace the child. She met with district authorities, search teams, and the girl’s family to offer support and coordinate further action.

Accompanied by North Garo Hills Additional SP Ravi K. Sangma, Investigating Officer Mrs. Pinky and DCPO Salnam Momin, the MSCPCR chief monitored the ground operations and reassured the family that the state stands with them in this critical hour.

With dog squads, fire and emergency services and CDPO teams deployed across the area, the search has now turned into a race against time.

The MSCPCR has appealed to anyone with information, however small, to step forward immediately.
