“65 MW Rangmaw Hydel Project” of West Khasi Hills cancelled

Shillong, Nov 4: Meghalaya cabinet today cancelled the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed with MS Sew Energy Limited in 2010 for 65 megawatt Rangmaw Hydel Power project.

Briefing the media, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The company had requested the Government to cancel the project as they found it not feasible to implement”. He also informed that fresh expression of interest for the project will be floated.

Tynsong also said that the project was hurriedly signed.

Sources told Hub News that MeECL has also found the project not feasible.

In 2010, the hydro project was allotted to private company on Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, however, the company after its feasibility test had requested the government to cancel the MoA signed with Government of Meghalaya.

Cabinet approves St. Xavier’s University Bill

Meghalaya cabinet also approved the St Xavier’s University Shillong Bill 2020, which will be tabled in the upcoming session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Tynsong informed that after through discussion it was approved by the cabinet for setting up of the proposed university.
