Dibrugarh, July 16: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has begun preparations for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections, starting with grassroots-level interactions to strengthen the party’s foundation.
Addressing a press conference here, AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said, “To strengthen the party for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, we have started interactions with our party members. A committee has also been formed to create a roadmap for the elections.”

“We are a regional party, and to promote regionalism, we have started visiting various districts of Assam to encourage party workers to work actively in the lead-up to the elections,” he added.
Bora further stated, “We have been in alliance with the BJP since 2016, and together we are working for the development of Assam. Seat-sharing discussions are yet to take place, but wherever we believe our candidates have a strong chance, we will consult our alliance partner and propose our candidates.”

Taking a dig at the opposition, Bora said, “Our main opponent is the Congress, along with so-called regional parties. The Congress ruled Assam for many years but failed to address key issues. Since our alliance government came to power, we have prioritised those issues and resolved many of them.”
