Ampati students join awareness drive on drugs, cleanliness and green future

Tura, Aug 23: Students of Ampati Degree College took part in a day-long awareness programme on Swachhata Hi Seva, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, organised by the Field Publicity Office, Tura, Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting on Friday.

Addressing the youth, Dr. Matgrik Sangma, Medical Officer, warned that South West Garo Hills is highly vulnerable to illegal drug trafficking due to its proximity to Bangladesh and Assam, putting young people at risk of addiction. He urged students to seek help through the District Mental Health Programme and helplines 9362749485 and Tele-MANAS 14410.

The event included talks by the Vice-Principal and lecturers on the dangers of drugs and tobacco, the need for tree plantation and the importance of hygiene.

Students also took pledges, planted litchi and pomelo saplings, joined a cleanliness drive, and participated in a quiz competition before the day ended with prize distribution.
