Shillong, July 23: The State Level Inter-School Karate Tournament 2026, organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA), got underway in Shillong on Thursday, bringing together 802 boys and girls from 126 schools across the state.
The championship is being held at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), STC, NEHU, Shillong and showcases some of Meghalaya’s most promising young karate talents.
The tournament was inaugurated by Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) Working President John F. Kharshiing in the presence of MSOA Secretary Finely L. Pariat, Joint Secretary P. Laloo, senior AMKA officials and other dignitaries.
During the inaugural programme, the AMKA also felicitated two Meghalaya karate athletes for their outstanding performances at the 10th Cadet, Junior, Under-21 and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from July 15 to 19.
Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri was honoured for winning the gold medal in the Boys’ Junior Under-68 kg category, while Gideon Tympuin was felicitated for securing the bronze medal in the Men’s Under-21 Individual event.
