Tura, May 13: A third person having the Covid infection has lost his life in the district within the last two weeks, on Thursday. The 46 year old man from Rajabala passed away in Tura civil hospital on Thursday.
“The 46 year old male patient from Rajabala was admitted to Tura civil hospital last night but expired today from comorbid condition. He was a sugar and hypertension patient and had not been vaccinated. His oxygen level was just 59,” informed Ram Singh, West Garo Hills Deputy commissioner.
Rajabala and Phulbari region in the plains belt have been identified for high number of infections from Covid and many of the public in those areas have been opposing lockdowns and refusing to wear masks and follow social distancing and hand hygiene. Only yesterday, angry mobs pelted stones on police in Phulbari because they were not allowed to open shops since the area had been made a containment zone after a high number of positive cases were found.
The first patient with covid infection to pass away this month was Rev. Krickwin Marak (71) on May 4th and this was followed by another death, this time a 71 year old man from Walbakgre who had severe dysentery and tested positive.
The total number of active covid cases in the district has gone up to 356 on Thursday.
